Not sure where to start?
Hi, I'm Schelbea , waving hand (pronounced "Shelby") Gillingham, M.S., CCC-SLP โ a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with a passion for helping children discover the joy of communication. I believe every child deserves to be heard, and I'm here to make that happen in a warm, play-based setting.
I hold a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from University of Nevada Reno and am licensed in Nevada. My approach is evidence-based and always family-centered โ because you know your child best. I have almost a decade of experience working with a variety of children from 3 years to 22 years old working within the school setting. I hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and am committed to ongoing professional development to ensure my therapy is informed by the latest research and best practices.
When I am not supporting your family, I am spending time with my family and dogs. I love cooking, reading, and traveling to new cities.
How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?
If you have concerns about your child's speech or language development, trust your instincts. Common signs include difficulty being understood by others, frustration during communication, limited vocabulary for their age, or challenges following directions. A free consultation is always a good first step.
What does a typical session look like?
Sessions are play-based and child-led, designed to feel fun and engaging rather than clinical. Activities are tailored to each child's goals and interests. Parents are encouraged to observe and participate so they can support progress at home.
Do you accept insurance?
Right now we are only accepting private pay clients while we work on contracting with various insurance providers. However, we can provide you with a "Superbill" or invoice that you can submit for potential reimbursement.
How long will my child need therapy?
Every child is different. Duration depends on the nature and severity of the communication challenge, how consistently goals are practiced at home, and the child's individual progress. We reassess regularly and keep you informed every step of the way.
